There will never be a man in this world who can truly love me, no matter how much I learn about the world. "I need so much!'" S&S Sense and Sensibility, by Jane Austen

Jane Austen's 1811 novel Sense and Sensibility is one of her best-known works. On the title page, "By a Lady" appears where the author's name might have been. Elinor and Marianne, the Dashwood sisters, are the focus of this novel. John, their older half-brother, and Margaret, their younger half-sister, also live with them.

Norland Park, the estate where the three Dashwood sisters grew up, has been sold and the family must relocate. The four Dashwood women must find a new place to live because Norland has been passed down to John, the son of Mr. Dashwood's first marriage, and his young son. Sir John Middleton, a distant relative, allows them to rent Barton Cottage, a modest home on his property. They go through all the highs and lows of love and romance. Between 1792 and 1797, the novel is most likely set in London, Sussex, and the South West of England.

The novel was a financial success for its author when it sold out of its initial print run of 750 copies in the middle of 1813. Later that year, it was reprinted for a second time. After her death, it was the first Austen book to be republished in England.

Every library should have a copy of this timeless classic.
